Acid Reflux and Indigestion - Heartbearn - Hiatal Hernia
We can help you with acid reflux at our Chagrin Falls clinic.
Signs or Symptoms
- Heartburn, pain and difficulty while swallowing, coughing, bad breath, throat soreness,
laryngitis, and hoarseness
- In children: difficulty keeping liquids down, spitting up, projectile vomiting
Description
Stomach acids come back up into the esophagus and into the mouth irritating these
structures.
Causes
- Poor functioning of the valve between the stomach and the esophagus
- Hiatal hernia
- Diaphragm imbalance
- Poor diet
- Food allergy
Standard Treatment
Acid blocking medications that provide symptomatic relief but, in time, inhibit
absorption of minerals. In severe cases surgery is used to reduce the size of the
opening between the stomach and the esophagus.
Our Holistic Approach
Most cases of reflux respond very quickly to our treatment approach:
- Testing is done to determine abnormal functioning of the diaphragm. Then treatment
is directed at normalizing its function to alleviate its pinching of the stomach
and esophagus.
- Testing is also done to determine if a hiatal hernia is present and, if so, treatment
is initiated to correct the problem.
- Dietary advice and supplementation are implemented to restore proper digestive function
and to repair damage to the stomach and esophageal linings.
Reflux in Infants
This is becoming a more common condition in infants. We have successfully treated
and corrected numerous cases of reflux in children with similar methods stated above
but modified to accommodate a baby’s individual needs. 440.893.0348
