How We Help Low Back Pain

Low back pain affects millions of people everyday. It is so common that people tend to accept it as normal and live their lives by trying to cope with it. Most are told by their medical doctor that their only option is drugs or surgery. Fortunately, there are safe, effective alternatives. If you are suffering from back pain, our Chagrin Falls clinic can help.

Chiropractic and applied kinesiology are effective treatment methods for relieving low back pain and we specialize in both. According to a recent government study, chiropractic manipulation was the most effective approach in relieving acute low back pain.

There are two different forms of low back pain:
1. Localized pain in the low back.
2. Low back pain with radiation of pain into the upper buttock and sometimes into the leg and down to the toes. Whichever the case may be, there are several areas that must be assessed:

  1. Disc herniations. These can be ruled out or in by several methods including neurological tests, x-rays, MRI, etc. We use neurologic muscle testing to determine if there is a herniation. I find this method to be the most accurate and the most cost effective. If a disc herniation is diagnosed, surgery is not the only option. Chiropractic and applied kinesiology have proven over and over to be the best treatment for this condition.

  2. Pelvic dysfunction. When the bones in the pelvis are not moving like they should, this can cause low back pain. When the pelvis is not moving properly, the hip, knee, ankle, and foot can be affected as well.

  3. Muscle weakness/dysfunction. Since muscles move bones, it is important to check the strength of the muscles in the low back. Unfortunately, not many doctors do. There are 15 or so muscles that support the low back. We test these muscles on patients with low back pain and correct any imbalances. It just makes sense: If several muscles of the low back are not working, how can the low back be supported properly?

  4. Nutritional deficiencies. There are certain nutrients that specifically support the disc. If one is deficient in these nutrients, the disc weakens and is prone to injury. An adequate supply of nutrients in the right form is necessary not only for the health of the low back, but for all processes in the human body.

  5. There are others factors that should be considered with low back pain. These include posture, exercise, and diet.

If you are struggling with low back pain, we can help! A properly trained doctor will check for all of these above imbalances and work with you to correct them. 440.893.0348
