Curvature of the Spine
Signs or Symptoms
A twisting of the spine, a high hip or shoulder that is always present, an imbalance
in the shape of the rib cage, or later in life possibly shrinking and becoming shorter.
Description
Abnormal curvature of the spine. This can be due to a structural defect, a mis-shapened
spinal bone or a short leg. It can be due to chronic muscle imbalances or it can
occur for no apparent reason which is then called “idiopathic.”
Standard treatment
Braces to attempt to hold the spine straighter and, if the curve continues to progress
- surgery.
Our Effective Approach
-
First a comprehensive evaluation of your posture and muscle balance is performed
along with full-spine x-rays.
-
Testing via applied kinesiology is performed to find out which
muscles controlling spinal alignment are not contracting properly. Treatment is
performed to correct these imbalances.
-
Spinal manipulation is used to realign the vertebrae.
-
Research from different parts of the world has shown that imbalances in areas like
the TMJ (jaw) and in the feet (dropped arches), can play a part in the muscles imbalances
in the spine. These areas are assessed and corrected.
-
A series of treatments can often reverse a spinal curve.
