Shoulder Pain - Rotator Cuff - Shoulder Tendonitis - Shoulder Bursitis
We can help you with shoulder pain at our Chagrin Falls clinic.
Description
Shoulder injuries run the gamut from ligament injuries, muscle injuries and cartilage
damage. The condition can be a mild sprain/strain, or as debilitating as in a frozen
shoulder. Symptoms include: pain, weakness, tingling down the arm, decreased motion.
Causes
Trauma, through repetitive motion or one severe action. When no trauma has occurred,
other factors include:
- Reflex pain
- Structural imbalances in the spine, pelvis, knees or feet
Standard treatment
a. Physical therapy can include: ultrasound, stretching and exercise. Unfortunately,
when muscles are neurologically “turned off” exercise does little good.
b. Cortisone injections and anti-inflammatory medications are also used. If there
is a tear of the cartilage or a complete tear of the tendon, then surgery is often
recommended.
Our Effective Approach
The examination begins with a full investigation of the supporting muscles of the
shoulder using applied kinesiology. As the shoulder
is a muscular socket with a bony ball, the muscles are an integral part. Nerve impingement
is also a major cause and needs to be addressed using chiropractic
manipulation. Testing is done to determine which muscles are turned off
and need correction. Treatment may include:
1. Spinal manipulation: Misaligned vertebra in the neck can irritate
the spinal nerves that feed the shoulder. This can cause pain, weakness and stiffness
of the shoulder. Chiropractic adjustments to these vertebra are a safe and effective
means of eliminating these symptoms.
2. Correct Muscle weaknesses: We isolate and test each muscle of
the shoulder looking for weaknesses, paying special attention to the rotator cuff
muscles. Successful treatment will yield an immediate decrease in pain along with
an increase in strength and range of motion.
3. Re-align Shoulder Joint: The main shoulder joint is called the
glenohumeral joint. Even at its healthiest, it is an unstable joint due to its wide
radius of motion. We diagnose and correct any misalignments or restrictions of this
joint and the other joints of the shoulder girdle. The shoulder blade can also be
misaligned. These imbalances are quite common in shoulder problems but are not thoroughly
addressed in mainstream medicine or physical therapy.
4. Nutritional/Herbal Therapies are often used to speed up healing
time and reduce pain and inflammation.
5. Other Factors We Address: Shoulder pain is often caused from
imbalances in other parts and systems of the body. Our holistic approach addresses
the whole person from head to toe.
